Volunteer Opportunities

We receive many inquiries about volunteering with Beauty Redefined, and we are currently all booked up! Thank you for your interest in volunteering with BR. We’ll post when positions open up again, but for now, the wonderful past and present volunteers below are all we can handle.

Please stay to meet our past and present bR volunteers. They are doing amazing things and we are indebted to them for using their skills to benefit our nonprofit!

Caroline FayCaroline Fay, University Booking Manager: Caroline is heading up the university end of Beauty Redefined’s 2014-2015 speaking tour. Caroline works at Harvard Business School by day, and blogs about the Boston music scene by night. Amy Poehler, Stevie Nicks and Robyn are her favorite feminist inspirations of the moment.

DSC_0038Megan Gessel Brewster, Grant Writer: Ever since she heard their presentation at a religious conference years ago, Megan has been a huge fan of Beauty Redefined. Consequently, she’s thrilled about serving as the group’s Grant Writing Assistant. A December 2013 graduate of the University of Utah’s English program, Megan has experience writing for both web and print. As an undergraduate, she also served an internship at the United States Senate and enjoyed volunteering with the University’s Student Alumni Board and Lowell Bennion Service Center. In her free time, Megan enjoys reading news and novels, dancing, crafting, and exploring her new home of St. Louis, MO, along with her husband Scott, a medical student.

bR_photo_MadelineGearheartMadeline Gearheart, Grant Writer: I don’t even remember how I found Beauty Redefined. I do remember that the first few posts I read profoundly affirmed something I desperately wanted to be true: that I am way more than patriarchy makes me out to be. The following are just a few things that prove I’m not just a body to be looked at: I work full-time as a marketing copywriter and editor; I take community classes and develop new skills; I buy and prepare food that makes my body and mind feel amazing; and I volunteer for Beauty Redefined as a grant writing assistant. I am excited to change the world with you!

Beauty_Redefined_Bio_PicHeidi Orchard, Grant Writer: Hello Beauty Redefined fans! I am thrilled to be part of the Beauty Redefined mission working as a Grant Writing Assistant. I have a Bachelors in History with a Public History emphasis and a Master’s in Library and Information Science Digital Content Management. In my everyday life I am a Digital Records Librarian and spend most of my time with historic photographs, documents, and artifacts and all that is required for making these great things digital and online for the world to see. I love reading, watching black and white movies, doing yoga, watching baseball and tennis, cooking, crafting, vacationing, and hanging out with friends and family. I have really taken the message of Beauty Redefined to heart and love the way it has helped me truly see myself as a beautiful, powerful women with much to contribute to my immediate surroundings and society as a whole.

meChristina Stephens, Grant Writer: My name is Christina and I am currently attending the University of Georgia to get my Masters in Social Work.  I have great interest in the mission of Beauty Redefined and am excited to be a part of the volunteer team! I am from Green Bay, Wisconsin, did my undergrad in Provo and now live in Atlanta, Georgia.  I enjoy reading, laughing, fro yo, the beach and photography.

IMG_6328Keighty Brigman, Facebook Administrator: Hey, fellow redefiners! My name is Keighty, and I’m a runner, a baker, and an adorable-baby maker (3 for 3 so far). I also have my Master’s degree in Social Welfare, specializing in adult mental health. The fight in redefining beauty is my own way of telling my old eating disorder to suck it. When I’m not on Facebook fighting for social media justice, I’m usually chasing my three boys and trying to model to them the importance of seeing the value in people, rather than the arbitrary importance of appearance. I believe strongly in always asking, “Why?” Thank you so much for letting me fight alongside with you on Facebook!

Dance-2Alicia Johnson, Google + Administrator: I was born and raised in Oregon. I received my BA from BYU Provo in English, my great love being African American Women’s lit. I met my husband at university, and after two years of dating we were married. We are now raising three boys (so I’m hopelessly outnumbered, but loving it). My goal is to teach them, and raise them in a world that is kinder and fairer to women (and men) across the globe.

ShaliniShalini Wickramatilake, Pinterest Administrator: Shalini is currently a Prevention Fellow with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Shalini previously worked at Boston Medical Center, New England’s largest safety net hospital, as a Research Coordinator for a CDC-funded study on Patient Navigation for Cancer Screening. She also has clinical experience working as a Treatment Coordinator in a residential facility for adolescent girls struggling with mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues. Shalini studied mental health and earned her Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2011. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. When she’s not working, Shalini enjoys spending time with her family and her fiance Scott, having Investigation Discovery marathons, getting a daily dose of exercise, writing old fashioned letters, and eating oreos.

a9eade4a4fe011e3a78d0ab9c0a565fd_8Mindy Thornley, Tumblr Administrator: Hi! I am a behavior analyst living in Logan, Utah. I absolutely love college football and basketball, running, everything pink and I eat way too many treats! I have no problem sky diving or bungee jumping, but I have an almost paralyzing fear of deer! And apparently, I use entirely too many exclamation points. I am a proud alumna of Utah State University {where I met Lexie and Lindsday!} and will complete my graduate degree from Arizona State University in Applied Behavioral Analysis in August.

IMG_1437Rachel Kellogg, Twitter Administrator: Rachel is a social media geek on a mission: to encourage body positivity and to educate women about body image issues. As a former dancer and an avid yogini, she has had her fair share of ups and downs when it comes to her own self-image. (Read the full story here) She is delighted to be working with BR with the aim to #takebackbeauty on Twitter

954782_10151659730257223_1669032800_nJessie Fullerton, Graphic Designer: Jessie is a graphic designer that enjoys using her skills to help spread good messages. And she’s doing just that for Beauty Redefined. She is probably a typical “artsy” personality in that she enjoys theatre, art, museums, books, cats and scarves. She also enjoys writing, but can’t ever think of good things to write about herself.
